Here's a nice find. This 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 4.5 in in remarkable condition.The 4.5 is the most desirable year/model combination for the 280SE. It has become collectible because it was only sold in the USA in 1972. Car and Driver said it is "perhaps the best and most attainable example of Stuttgart's golden-age greatness".
They also said "in 1972, Stuttgart gifted the short-wheelbase, four-door W108 with V-8 power - a 230-hp, 4.5-liter unit. This combination, sold stateside for only one model year, offered the best of both worlds, pairing the nimble chassis of the short-wheelbase model with some of the thrust of the 300-hp, long-wheelbase model. What once was a plodding, low-powered autobahn cruiser had morphed into a torque-packed sport sedan with all-day-long, 125-mph legs."
The S-Class of it's day, this car exudes luxury and elegance. This one isn't quite ready for the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, but's a very nice driver right now, and it is certainly a great candidate for a full restoration.
